Structure. Order. Discipline. These words give me mental hives! However, with the dawning of the first day of school tomorrow, it is imperative our family embrace and live them in order to make a successful transition from summer freedom to a jam-packed school year.
These three words are important to most facets of our lives. Structure helps us plan and know what to expect (for the most part) day to day. Order gives us the ability to prioritize and see what we have before us. Discipline leads us into taking care of business and making the most of our days, even when we don’t feel like taking the steps to get there. Without incorporating these words into our lives, we spend a good deal of time wandering around, getting nowhere fast. We may end up missing important appointments or activities. We also run the risk of missing out on a lot of fun and neglecting spending time with those who are important to us.
Structure, order, and discipline are critical to our spiritual walk as well. Relationship with God doesn’t just happen. It is up to us to invest the time. And we won’t make that time if we aren’t ordering our days so that His plans takes priority. Prayerfully consider what these words mean to you and the changes that may need to be made in your life to start exercising their use.
As you enter this fall season, make time to make Him your priority. Live on purpose!
And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossions 3:17 (ESV)
